ITT PumpSmart® VFD Obtains Ten Patents

October 16, 2007, Seneca Falls, NY --- ITT’s PumpSmart is the powerful combination of a standard VFD and over twenty man years of pump hydraulic design and pump process knowledge.  This knowledge base includes 10 patents that have been issued and another 4 that are pending. PumpSmart’s proprietary features, not available on standard VFDs, include:

1. Simple Set Up (Numerous Patents) – PumpSmart was designed for pumps and as a result the setup is very simple.  Standard drives are designed for a wide array of equipment. They can not match the simplistic and intuitive PumpSmart setup. 

2. Smart Flow™ or sensorless flow measurement (Patented) – PumpSmart is able to programmatically derive the specific speed design of your pump.  With this derived information it can accurately define the pump flow rate by leveraging torque and speed. 

3. Pump Protection (numerous patents)– PumpSmart knows exactly where your pump is operating on the performance curve and will prevent dry running, low flow recirculation and run out cavitation conditions. All of which are detrimental to pump performance.  

4. 40 different pump process features (numerous patents) were designed and embedded into the control logic to address a wide array of pump specific problems.  Each customer application offers its own unique challenges and our PumpSmart controller has artificial intelligence and process logic to address them. 

5. Multi- Pump Control (numerous patents) – Managing multiple pumps with a standard variable speed drive is a very challenging task given the breadth of process variables, speed, flow and pressure of multiple pumps.  PumpSmart’s embedded logic will flawlessly manage the entire process.
